Both Brains and Beauty Webstore Update

I have an unfortunate announcement to make today. Due to new state legislation in CO regarding the collection of sales taxes by online retailers, my suppliers will no longer be able to sell through Colorado based businesses. What this means is that as of this month, the Both Brains and Beauty webstore is no longer functional. This includes the donation portion for Children’s Hospital as well as the main shopping site hosted at www.shop.bothbrainsandbeauty.com. The primary site at www.bothbrainsandbeauty.com will continue without change.

I will be looking for new ways to continue providing helpful study and school materials for students through my website. In the meantime, however, I would like to thank my loyal customers and readers for your support, and I will continue to post science articles and discussions, especially those per request- keep the requests coming!

If you live in Colorado and would like to read about the new legislation and/or write to your Colorado lawmakers regarding these new laws having an adverse effect on local business, then the following information is for you:

Children’s Hospital Wish List Store Now Up & Running

Thanks to all those who have inquired about the Children’s Hospital Wish List Store! I am pleased to announce that the arrangements are completed with the wonderful volunteer staff at Children’s, and the store is up and ready to go! I’ll be keeping wishlist items up-to-date as their needs change.

You can find the store here. All payment information is processed through Amazon Checkout and uses your Amazon account information. You are backed 100% by all of Amazon’s standard A-Z Guarantee policies.

The directions to have items shipped directly to Children’s Hospital should show up on every page of the site, but just in case, those same directions are below. They need items year-round, but the deadline for the 2009 Holiday Distribution is 12/16/09. Please keep this deadline in mind as you plan your online Holiday shopping! This deadline gives the hospital volunteers an opportunity to sort through donations and prepare the items for parents to choose gifts their kids will appreciate the most.

To donate items to the Children’s Hospital in Aurora, CO:

Add donation items to your cart and proceed to checkout when you are ready.
Enter your billing information as you normally would.
DO NOT select any gift options if these are available for your chosen items; this will prevent your tax receipt from being processed. In addition, volunteers must remove any giftwrap upon receipt of the item at the Hospital.
Ship items to the following address: The Children’s Hospital, 13123 East 16th Avenue, Aurora, CO 80045.
Your tax receipt will be mailed by the volunteer staff at Children’s Hospital to your billing address.
The deadline for gift items to be received at the hospital for the 2009 Holiday Distribution is December 16, 2009. Of course, the Children’s Hospital is in need of items for newborns through 18-year-olds year-round!

Children’s Hospital Donation Opportunities Coming Soon

Hi everyone,

Here is an update for you all that I think will be an excellent addition for Both Brains and Beauty. I’m currently working with the Children’s Hospital in Aurora, CO, to set up some cool new opportunities available from yours truly. Currently, we are working on two new things:

1) Free tutoring for Children’s Hospital patients

It’s tough being a kid. It’s even tougher to be a kid living in a hospital, and to be struggling with life-or-death every single day. Many of them struggle with being unable to do many of the things most kids do, and take for granted. One way Both Brains and Beauty can help is by offering to help get these kids caught up with their schoolwork so they can jump right back into the beat as soon as they are physically ready. I am offering free tutoring to the patients of Children’s Hospital so they can get back to being kids, homework and all. If you or someone you know would benefit from this service, please contact me for more details. Additional details, FAQ, and the fine print will be added on its own page in the navigation bar as soon details are finalized.

2) Children’s Hospital Wish List items available on the BBAB webstore

Children’s Hospital has published a wish list of items they need year-round, not just during the holidays. Coming soon, BBAB will have a section with only Children’s Hospital approved items available for sale. While the store section will be available within the next couple weeks, I am still working out kinks with the online shipping in order to have items shipped to the hospital, and to get tax receipts sent out to the generous donors. Items will be available for sale as soon as they appear on the BBAB website, but until we work out a mechanism for the shipping and tax receipt issue, customers will need to either make delivery on their own, or prearrange to have items shipped to me to be dropped off. BBAB Flyer for Distribution

Hey everyone,

The BBAB flyer is designed and ready to go. Thought I would share the document in case anyone would like to email it or otherwise share with anyone.

Also, if you want to help distribute flyers in exchange for discounted tutoring, please let me know so I can give you a referral code to email or to write or print on the flyers you distribute so I know who was referred by who and can discount hours accordingly. The referral code will need to be entered online at the time the referred person purchases hours.

Shall we say that each referral is worth one free hour of tutoring? Offer is good until the end of October 2009, at which point I will have fun new discount options ready.

If you want to help distribute flyers but don’t want or need tutoring, tutoring hours can be “gifted” to someone in your life that you would like to donate the hours to… whether it is family, friends, whomever. If you plan to donate any hours earned, please let me know when you ask for a referral code.
